In the city of Vancouver, the Donnellan family has woven a tapestry of success.

It all began in a small village in Galway, Ireland, where William Donnellan’s entrepreneurial spirit took shape in his early twenties. In 2009, Willam Donnellan and his wife Laura relocated to Vancouver, bringing with them their dreams, ambitions, and a love for authentic Irish hospitality. Together, they founded IRL Group, a business venture that would become the cornerstone of their success in their new home.

In the heart of downtown Vancouver, the Donnellans found a place for their dreams and embraced the vibrant energy of the city. In particular, William developed a deep fondness for the bustling Granville strip, which he refers to as “the dynamic core of the city.” Their first venture, Donnellan’s Irish Pub, is located in the heart of the Granville Entertainment District. For William and Laura, this pub was much more than just a business — it was a symbol of new beginnings. The opening of Donnellan’s coincided with the birth of their first child, marking the start of a new chapter both professionally and personally.

As their business began to flourish, the Donnellans expanded their presence across Vancouver. Each new location embodied their vision: “a genuine Irish pub concept, adored by locals, shared nationwide through their franchise model, the Shamrock Storehouse,” William explains. Looking ahead, William is excited about the future plans to revitalize Granville Street, a project he believes will evoke “a sense of nostalgia for the lively years past, while also creating new memories and experiences for the city.” The energy of Granville Street has always been a source of inspiration for the Donnellans, and they are eager to be part of the transformation that will make this iconic street a destination for future generations.

Since the beginning of their journey, the Donnellans have embraced the community, forged lifelong friendships, and learned invaluable lessons that have shaped their path. Both Laura and William are grateful for the warm embrace of Vancouverites since their arrival from Ireland. Looking ahead, the Donnellans are excited about what the future holds for both their family and their business. They invite you to share in the spirit of Sláinte, meaning “cheers” in Gaelic, as they toast to a future filled with prosperity and community in beautiful British Columbia.
