From vaudeville to blues, punk rock to EDM, Granville Street has long been the heart of Vancouver’s nightlife. Discover the stories behind iconic venues like the Commodore Ballroom, the Orpheum, and the Vogue Theatre, revisit the days of Theatre Row, and learn how the street has evolved over the decades.
Led by award-winning author and historian Aaron Chapman, this free tour begins behind Vancouver City Centre SkyTrain Station and lasts approximately 90 minutes, rain or shine. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water if the weather is warm.

Granville Street: Heritage, Change & the Future

On this interactive tour led by Bill Yuen, Executive Director of the Heritage Vancouver Society, you’ll discover how memories, culture, everyday experiences, historic buildings and city planning all shape the identity of one of Vancouver’s most iconic streets.
Rather than a traditional history tour, we’ll connect Granville Street’s evolving story to the issues shaping downtown today. Along the way, we’ll discuss major projects and city-building decisions: including the future of the Hudson’s Bay building, the 2025 Granville Street Plan, Holborn’s proposed redevelopment, and Vancouver’s Higher Buildings Policy, and explore how they influence the places we value. Together, we’ll consider questions such as: What makes a place worth preserving? Who gets to shape the future of a city? And what does heritage mean in a rapidly changing downtown?
