THIS MONTH THE DVBIA STAFF ATTENDED TWO WORKSHOPS, THE FIRST ENTITLED “INDIGENOUS 101” AND THE SECOND ENTITLED “DECOLONIZING PRACTICES,” HELD AT THE MUSEUM OF VANCOUVER

Indigenous 101 was a member-facing event that highlighted guest speaker Kory Wilson’s personal experiences as an Indigenous woman, as well as debunking false information regarding Indigenous culture, laws, and practices. Decolonizing Practices was an internal workshop facilitated by Michelle Nahanee and Lloyd Attig that forced the DVBIA team to look at colonization and best practices in order to see the world through a decolonized lens. In addition, all DVBIA staff are required to take the Indigenous Canada course provided online by the University of Alberta as part of their professional development.
