THE REPORT

The State of Downtown report is Downtown Van’s signature research publication, highlighting downtown Vancouver’s economic and social state supported by leading-edge data. A free hardcopy of the report will be available at the event and digital copies will be available for download immediately following.

PANELISTS

Chuck We, Hudson Pacific Properties

Chuck We joined Hudson Pacific Properties in 2019 and serves as Executive Vice President, Pacific Northwest/Canada Office Operations. He is responsible for office portfolio operations in Seattle and Vancouver totalling over 4.2 million square feet. Prior to Hudson Pacific, We served as Vice President for Oxford Properties Group, where he oversaw leasing and operations in Vancouver, and participated in development and acquisitions. We also previously worked at Bentall Properties, Royal LePage Commercial and BCI. He currently serves on the board of the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (Downtown Van) and Destination Vancouver, and previously served on the boards of NAIOP, Vancouver Chapter and the ULI British Columbia District Council. We holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance, Marketing and International Business from Simon Fraser University.

Thomas Daley, City of Vancouver

As lead planner for Downtown Vancouver, Thomas has successfully delivered a variety of highly complex area plans and projects for the City of Vancouver’s Planning, Urban Design and Sustainability Department. He is committed to helping shape our city, while exploring innovative ways to create sustainable, equitable, and healthy urban environments. Currently, he is leading the Granville Street Planning program to create a new vision for the street that will help shape the future of downtown Vancouver’s iconic entertainment district as an exciting, welcoming, safe, and inclusive destination that is alive with activity at all hours of the day.

Galib Bhayani, Simon Fraser University

Ret. Chief Superintendent Galib Bhayani is a respected public safety leader and accomplished academic with over 30 years of policing experience and 14 years as a university educator. Having served as Chief Superintendent of RCMP Metro Vancouver, he oversaw 2400 police personnel across 13 detachments, prioritizing emergency planning and risk mitigation for 1.8 million residents. As Chief of Police for the City and District of North Vancouver, he led strategic initiatives and financial planning, promoting a unified vision. With global recognition, he held the role of UN Regional Security Chief in Sudan and spearheaded policing efforts in Baghdad, Iraq. Honored with the Member Order of Merit, he currently serves as the Chief Safety and Risk Officer at Simon Fraser University.
