ABOUT THE EVENT:

Major events are associated with enormous economic impact through visitor spending, civic pride, and even infrastructure upgrades. This panel discussion will delve into the scale of effort and proactive, long-term planning necessary to ensure a positive experience for businesses, residents, and visitors when large-scale events take place in downtown Vancouver.

PANELLISTS:

Michelle Collens, City of Vancouver 

Michelle Collens currently serves as the Director of the Vancouver Sport Hosting partnership, working closely with all levels of government, tourism partners, and community organizations driving economic and social development opportunities in the City of Vancouver. Active in the community, Collens also sits on the boards of Sport Tourism Canada, Invictus Games, and the Alumni UBC Advisory Council.  

Tom Conway, Small Business BC

As the CEO for Small Business BC since joining in 2019, Tom Conway brings more than 30 years of senior leadership experience including advocacy, fundraising, and governance. Conway and the team at SBBC act as stewards of BC’s small business community, recognizing the importance of listening to and learning from diverse perspectives, and sustaining an equitable environment that fosters a sense of belonging for all members.  

Rohaan Sethna, Destination Vancouver 

As the Director of Destination Events, Rohaan leads Destination Vancouver’s role in the event industry focusing on sports, cultural events, and festivals; continuing to build Vancouver’s global reputation as a desired event destination. Sethna has amassed experience in various roles in events, marketing, and sponsorship at Bank of Montreal, TTG Partnerships, and most recently BC Place stadium.
