The DVBIA collaborates with local organizations, community groups, and creative individuals to enhance and beautify the publics experience downtown. In an effort to help partners navigate the challenges that come with trying to program and activate public spaces, the DVBIA is happy to announce the return of the “Public Space Vibrancy Grant.”

By applying for this program your idea can help shape the direction of what our public spaces will offer. We are looking for public space activations, transformations, and programming. Proposals may be for any kind of art installation or performance, fitness classes, educational experience, beautification, craft market, etc.

Who can apply?

Anyone with an interest in public space including community organizers, artists, musicians, and performers. Note: You do not need to be registered as a non-profit or charity to apply. Preference will be shown to new partners who have not yet worked with the DVBIA.

What kind of public spaces are eligible?

Key focus spaces include; šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square – Vancouver Art Gallery North Plaza, Robson Square, Lot 19, Granville Square etc. For a map of the full opportunity area of outdoor spaces please click here

What is the deadline?

The deadline for applications is May 4th, 2022.  Successful projects will be completed prior to September 31st, 2022.

How do I apply?

Submit this short form. Once received, the DVBIA will contact short-listed projects to further elaborate on the proposal plans and discuss a formal budget.

How much funding is available?

Applicants can request up to $2,500 to support their idea.

eLigible public spaces

The activation or project must occur in a public space within the DVBIA district. We’ve highlighted some suggested public spaces below.

Successful applicants will be guided by the Placemaking and Public Spaces team to navigate protocols such as permits and insurance, and to secure a location for their proposal within the downtown core. Additionally, COVID regulations and all Provincial Health Orders will be followed throughout the planning and activation phases.
