The Dvbia is pleased to announce the appointment of Nolan Marshall III as President and CEO.
Nolan comes to the DVBIA from New Orleans, where he served as the Chief Engagement and Solutions Officer of the New Orleans Business Alliance.
Marshall began his career by building a successful small business but turned his attention to public policy and advocacy in 2006 following Hurricane Katrina. After finding his true passion for community post-disaster, he served in many community-facing roles, including as the Associate Director of Common Good at Loyola University, Director of Policy and Advocacy at Tulane’s Cowen Institute, Director of Public Affairs and Policy at the Downtown Development District, and President and CEO of Uptown Dallas, Inc.
Marshall’s impressive background includes grassroots advocacy, civic engagement, and community organizing in public safety and public education policy. He also has extensive experience in place-based economic development strategies and creating and implementing macro and micro-economic development policies and programs.
With current President and CEO Charles Gauthier retiring on June 30, 2021, the DVBIA Executive Search Committee has been working with the national executive search firm, Leaders International, for the past several months to evaluate candidates from all over North America. Marshall was selected as the DVBIA’s top candidate based on his international leadership and economic development experience.
“I am thrilled to be joining the DVBIA as the incoming President & CEO, especially during such a critical time for so many businesses,” said Nolan Marshall III. “The pandemic has created many challenges for business communities around the world, but it has also opened up unique opportunities to innovate and do things differently. I look forward to diving into my role by engaging with downtown Vancouver’s community leaders and discussing the evolving challenges that they’re facing.”
Marshall’s start date is June 1, 2021, and current President and CEO Charles Gauthier’s final day will be June 30, 2021.
“The DVBIA Board of Directors, staff, and members are pleased to welcome Nolan as the new President & CEO of the Association,” says DVBIA Board Chair, and Managing Director of Boughton Law, Luca Citton. “Having witnessed firsthand the inspiration that comes from idea-sharing with cities throughout the world, I look forward to the impact that Nolan’s fresh perspective will have on our economic development, community safety, and placemaking initiatives. His robust background in economic development will be especially critical to our members as we look toward a post-pandemic recovery period for our downtown business owners.”
Citton acknowledged the impact made by the outgoing President and CEO, noting that Gauthier will be leaving behind a legacy that will continue to be felt in the downtown core for many years to come.
