The DVBIA is excited to announce the launch of an app-based historic walking tour, ‘Stories of Granville Street‘, developed in partnership with On This Spot, a local app developer.
The walking tour takes a deep dive into the flamboyant personalities and gripping events that shaped the history of one of Vancouver’s premier thoroughfares. On this tour, people can learn about the lives and exploits of pioneer lumberjacks and vaudeville actresses, corrupt politicians and crooked cops, bootleggers and environmental activists.
The On This Spot app takes people on guided walking tours through the history that surrounds them. At each stop on their journey, users will find themselves standing on the spot a historic photo was taken. They can view a then and now photo comparison, use the built-in camera to create their own, and read about local history and how it ties into the broader human experience.
Members of the DVBIA can advertise to the app’s thousands of users by having their businesses featured alongside historic photo opportunities and walking tours.
On This Spot currently has coverage in ten Canadian cities, and is adding a further 13 in time for Canada Day. The app is free to download and available on Android and iOS devices.
