The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (DVBIA) is seeking hardworking and observant volunteers to assist in collecting data and information about public spaces in downtown Vancouver.
We are seeking volunteers able to commit to three shifts a month from May to September. The shifts are four hours long, which amounts to 12 hours a month for five months.
The DVBIA supports, promotes and represents the shared interests of 7,000 businesses and property owners in the central 90-block area of Vancouver’s downtown core. Beyond business, a significant focus for the organization is placemaking, which is the study of human behaviour and how to create places for people. Our “Perch” program, created in 2013, is a seasonal pop-up plaza program, where placemaking activities happen five days a week from June to September.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, will be to record how many people walk through certain plazas and what activities people do in the spaces. This mission will take you outdoors in all weather conditions, with your final destination being indoors where you will input the data into Microsoft Excel. The data you collect will then form part of an annual report!
Skills and interest in data collection and urban planning are not ideal, but nice to have.
If you are interested, please contact the DVBIA’s Placemaking Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org
