We’re excited to welcome Sneeki Tiki as the newest addition to Granville Street. We chat with General Manager, Grant Sam on the bar’s concept and where the idea came from.
First off, tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started with Sneeki Tiki?
I’m Grant Sam, the General Manager of the Sneeki Tiki. The idea of a Tiki Bar was proposed to me by ownership from the beginning of 2018. After a lot of research from my personal travels and gastronomic experiences, the concept morphed into its present state.
Tiki culture is a 20th-century theme used in Polynesian-style restaurants and clubs originally in the United States and then, to a lesser degree, around the world. Although inspired in part by tiki carvings and mythology, the connection is loose and stylized, being an American form.
Now tell us about your restaurant and bar, what kind of menu and experience can customers expect?
The menu and atmosphere will transform you into another world of Tiki culture. We have maintained the traditional Tiki vibes with a twist on the menu. I consider the items on the menu my children and they are all my favourites.
Why attracted you to the Granville Street location?
Granville has always been our home base business, and the notion of a destination concept bar/ restaurant would be ideal for the area. Our aim is to capture a segment of the visitors to the Granville Strip and local residents. I’ve worked on the strip for almost 10 years and I love the eclectic vibe of the street.
Are there any fun specials or Sneeki Tiki events coming up?
We are presently planning a media launch party in the next few weeks. Other future events will be promoted through social media.
Presently there are no plans to host private events, but that can change in the near future. Our social media handles are:
From left to right: Aaron – Bar Captain, Angelica – Bartender, Dan – Bartender,
Danika – Server, and Grant – General Manager.
