Luca looks forward to advocating on behalf of DVBIA members and supporting/competing for “Best Dressed” with DVBIA Chair Gary Pooni. We are truly looking forward to Luca’s leadership and having him represent the organization as Vice Chair.
Meet our new Chair, Gary Pooni and our new Vice Chair, Luca Citton
Chair – Gary Pooni
Our newly-elected Chair is Gary Pooni, who is president of Brook Pooni Associates.
Gary studied at New Westminster school for high school, Simon Fras
ier University for his undergraduate degree, and for graduate school he attended the University of Calgary.
Gary’s first job was as a farm labourer, and then he worked as a video store clerk (easily his favourite job so far). Gary also worked at the New West BIA giving him insider knowledge on what it’s like to work with and for a BIA. Gary joined the DVBIA board due to his love for urban environments. He believes Downtown Vancouver to be one of the most beautiful and vibrant settings in the world.
When asked what Gary is most looking forward to as DVBIA Chair this coming year, he explained that ‘Downtown Vancouver is at another watershed moment in its history, in a rapidly changing economic and digital environment. The DVBIA is going to play a pivotal role in shaping the next chapter of Downtown Vancouver’.
If Gary wasn’t working in real estate he would be involved with either soccer or fashion, which isn’t surprising, as Gary is known as one of the DVBIA’s snappiest dressers.
Gary has served the DVBIA as a board member since 2015 and was our Vice -Chair for two years, so he is definitely well-prepared (and well-qualified) for the year ahead. We are very excited to have Gary as the DVBIA’s new Chair and look forward to working alongside him along with our new Vice Chair.
Vice Chair – Luca Citton
Meet our new Vice Chair, Luca Citton. Luca is a corporate lawyer, director and shareholder at Boughton Law. He’s also Italian. How will you know? We aren’t sure which gives it away first – his animated hand gestures, a fine sense of style (he’s in constant competition with Gary), or the occasional “mamma mia!” peppered throughout most conversations.
When first beginning his journey into professional life, Luca decided he was going to work with his hands: first, by serving pasta at the Italian Cultural Center, and second, as a bricklayer in his father’s masonry company. In both positions, he was encouraged to explore other vocations. Shortly after that, Luca found his calling at SFU – he received a philosophy degree on full academic scholarship. Not knowing what to do as a real-life philosopher, he headed out to Kingston, ON to attend law school at Queen’s.
Luca practiced corporate law for nearly a decade in Vancouver before joining Boughton Law in 2011. Boughton is a full-service 50-lawyer firm in downtown Vancouver. In 2014, he became a shareholder at Boughton Law, and in 2017 became one of three directors of the firm.
Giving back to the community where he lives
, and works is important to Luca. After serving on DVBIA committees for a few years, he joined the Board in 2016 to advocate on behalf of his home turf: the downtown core. In addition to his volunteer work with the DVBIA, Luca also volunteers as a Director with the Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society, and this spring concluded a 10-year stint with the Italian Cultural Centre Society, most recently serving as President for the last 3 years. When he’s not lawyering or volunteering, you can find Luca working off his mom’s good cooking and hiking in the North Shore Mountains with his fiancé and their two huskies.
